Drop with Light

I tried and tried to get a picture of a drip from this melting snow formation. I didn't think I'd succeeded. Even after the pictures were downloaded, I didn't notice it at first. But, look, there is a round drop just falling out of the frame! I think I can, I think I can..... a good reminder to me that we can't always see the results of our efforts at first.

Glow and Shadows

A little while back I went outside to get some Vitamin D (After bundling up in sweaters, vest, jacket, gloves, hat, scarf, sunglasses - how much do you really think I got? But see - snow, cold. Brrrr!)

Anyway....the sun was out so I tried to capture some interesting images in an otherwise more bleak landscape.

Fly on the Wall

Part VI

I'm glad to know a certain sister hasn't lost her touch for phrasing things, well, uniquely.

Yesterday she and her husband came over and I asked her, "How was your day?"

"It was unusual."

Her husband seemed slightly surprised and asked, "what did we do?"

She answered matter of factly, "you worked."

There was shocked silence in the room. We knew she didn't mean it the way it sounded, but we couldn't believe she'd just said something that funny.

She explained that she thought he had said, "what did I do?"

One Thing Leads to Another

I needed to write some thank you notes, I was pretty much out of note cards, and even though I've been given permission to raid my sisters stash (so she has an excuse to buy more), there wasn't just the right ones and being in mood to be creative, this is the one I sketched for my mother:

Inspired again by china, using elements of the design from her favorite teacup. That was after I'd tried drawing a puppy. No workie Charlie.

And one for two of my sisters. I love how the design came together for this card. Actually, it is the silhouette of one of the same sisters.

And I don't think she would be having a conversation with a bird. But, artist's liberty, you know

A Valentine's Note for My Grandmother

I thought it would be ever so nice to send my grandmother a Valentine's Day card, but I also had been wanting to write her a nice newsy letter. So I decided to combine the two.

Taking a plain 8 1/2" x 11" piece of copy paper I went to sit down at the dining table and adorn it. I was going to break down and do it very Valentine'ish, but when it came right down to it, I just could bring myself to put hearts on the paper. Hearts and I, we just don't mesh well. Which is probably a very good reason not to have a Valentine, but on the other hand, I wouldn't mind chocolates. And flowers.

Anyway, says the Irish girl, I couldn't bring myself to do hearts. So sitting down, pulling color pencils from the cupboard, I was inspired by the china cake plate sitting on the table with the Briar Rose pattern on it. So I rendered its likeness, taking liberty with the pattern, in colored pencils. And being the Irish girl that I am, when I say newsy, I mean it, and I had to add some quick pink touches to a second piece of paper in to order to fit all I had to say. But that I didn't photography. Across the top I wrote in rose pink: Happy Valentines Day.

I'm going to have to remember to sketch more, I like it. Really, I do. I find it very relaxing. Come spring and wildflowers, I must make time for it.
